I'm wondering what sort of bag pack is good for Irish climate use? I'd be using it for hiking everywhere. If anyone has info or experience of 70ltr +/- packs i'd appreciate some feedback.

Any of the big name brands are fine, Lowe, Berghaus, Deuter. 50 litre should be more than adequate for anything including camping (if you don't have enough room in 50 litre you're carrying too much stuff you don't need), having said that a way smaller sac, about 25 litres should be fine for day hikes.

Declan, you obviouly learned nothing from Ali G doing your ML, a 70 litre day sack is essential and you need at least 90 litres + a 15 litre extension if you are going for one night.

I prefer a larger bag as I like to bring the kitchen sink and large stove to cook a dinner.. You need to have your comforts on the hills
But really, I tend to walk or climb with a 50ltr bag. I have lowe or a bag from Decathlon which I use most of the time.
Climb safe and enjoy the hills

Thats my basic idea. I have a smaller 40ltr for hiking and climbing but I need somthing with a bit more umph. Probably since my tent is the size of a small planet. Thanks for the help.

The important thing is to have as much gear as you possibly can hanging off the back of the rucksack and to wear a big red lumberjack shirt over a thermal top and a nice brand new pair of beige mountain trousers, then you're ready for the hills Wickla style

This is all good advice but I prefer a more light weight approach. I find a 20Litre pack for food and clothing is fine. Then just bungee everything else onto the outside. Your tent can go underneath and the constant banging against your thighs reminds you its there. Thermorest tied to the top, also useful to rest your head on. And things like mugs and compasses can be tied to the bag and make an entertaining jingling noise that will keep all annoying wildlife at bay! dib dib dib
...On a serious note I like Millet (French Brand) http://www.millet.fr/catalog/materials/backpacks-c-16-l-1.html

Seriously 50 litre is the job, not too large for taking on a hike but perfect for a couple of nights on the hills,a winter slog and lugging your gear and ropes to Glendo. I have a Lowe Randoy 50 which is pretty versatile and hardwearing. You can remove the waste belt if you want to skinney it down. If [when] i buy another I would probably go for a lighter pack but this would probably not give the wear and tear.

p.s. Rob do Millet sacks have twin turbo!
