Hi,
I did get the shoes. I was charged duty when they arrived and they still worked out cheaper than buying them here. I think all in they cost €90 a pair (buying 2 pairs) as opposed to €120.

Regards

Dermot.

A word of warning to any novices out there reading this. The right fit is absolutely critical with rock shoes, so if you´re thinking of buying a pair via the web, make sure you´ve already tried on the exact same model and are happy that they´re right for you. Of course, Dermot goes through rock shoes like the rest of us go through drink so he knows what he´s doing.

That said, the internet is a great place to buy stuff, especially when the US dollar is worth as much as toilet paper these days. I´ve got some great deals recently for camping stuff at http://www.moontrail.com and http://www.actionoutdoors.co.uk .

These websites are all well and good, but there's nothing like trying on the shoes, boots, harnesses, jackets, etc. You dont want to be buying a pig in a poke!
If you are in the market for some serious gear, you could hold off until the June Bank Holiday meet to the Lake District and cash in on the weakness of sterling (like an economist said earlier this week, the weakness in sterling should be reflected in prices here at home, but it's not) so if the mountains won't come to Mohammed, then Mohammed should go to the mountains, and there are none finer than those in the Lake District.
There are more gear shops than you can shake a stick at in the town of Keswick, just up the road from the hut we will be using, the selection of gear is huge and Needle Sports gives 10% to card-carrying members - so everything is for half nothing. Too good to miss.
More details of the meet to follow.
